Executive Functioning Skills

K-8 Multisensory Academic Tutoring

K-8 Multisensory Academic Tutoring

Every moment of the day, we rely on our Executive Functioning (EF) Skills—but what exactly are they, and how can we strengthen them to support long-term success?

Executive Functioning Skills are a set of mental processes located in the brain’s prefrontal cortex. They help us stay focused, manage time, regulate emotions, and plan ahead. These skills include: attention and focus, time awareness and management, organization, task initiation, inhibition and self-control, planning and sequencing, emotional regulation, cognitive flexibility, working memory, metacognition (i.e., thinking about thinking).

In short: EF skills help us manage daily life and get things done.

Children with ADHD, Autism, Learning Disabilities, or Behavioral Disorders often experience difficulties with Executive Functioning. While EF isn't academic in itself, it’s estimated to impact school performance by 25% or more (Adams, 2020).

Without the right support, these challenges can lead to low self-esteem, academic struggles, and social difficulties. That’s why explicit, targeted interventions are crucial.

At Your Learning Toolbox, we take an individualized, diagnostic approach to strengthening Executive Functioning Skills. Using a variety of books, materials, and apps, we craft personalized strategies that empower your child to face everyday challenges with confidence.

Every child is different, so we take the time to listen, observe, and assess their unique needs. We then teach them how to build and use their own “learning toolbox” to navigate life more effectively.

We support skills such as: time management, homework and project planning, household routines and chores, emotional regulation and frustration tolerance, school and home organization systems, metacognitive strategies, focus and sustained attention.

At Your Learning Toolbox, we provide individualized tutoring for K–8 students with unique learning profiles, delivered both virtually and in person. Our passionate educators use research-based, multisensory approaches like Orton-Gillingham, multisensory math, and structured writing instruction to make classroom content accessible and engaging.

We support the development of core academic skills while also strengthening executive functioning abilities such as organization, planning, time management, and task initiation. Through ongoing assessment and close collaboration with families and schools, we adapt our instruction to meet each child’s evolving needs.

Our goal is not just to help students succeed in the moment, but to equip them with tools that build independence and foster a lifelong love of learning. Whether it's homework help, study strategies, or targeted instruction, we ensure every student has a toolbox tailored to their path toward confident, capable learning.

Parent-School Liaison Services

K-8 Multisensory Academic Tutoring

Parent-School Liaison Services

At Your Learning Toolbox, we believe collaboration is key to a child’s success. Our Parent-School Liaison services are designed to bridge communication between families, schools, and outside providers (e.g., OTs, PTs, SLPs, psychologists) with the child at the center of it all.

We act as a dedicated point person, streamlining communication and ensuring all team members are aligned in their support.

We take the work off parents’ plates: coordinating and leading team meetings, attending IEPs, conducting classroom observations, holding one-on-one meetings with teachers and providers, and more.

We don’t just meet, we act. From developing shared visual supports (like calm-down tools) to fostering consistency across home, school, and therapeutic settings, we make sure strategies are generalized and actionable.

Whether you’re a busy parent juggling responsibilities or simply overwhelmed by the process, we’re here to ensure your child’s needs are understood, supported, and championed. every step of the way.
